Living Up!

Why are people interested in having an active lifestyle?

Being physically active is important for people of all ages. Getting involved in activities that you enjoy is the key to establishing and maintaining an active lifestyle. An active lifestyle is important for building and maintaining healthy bones, muscles and joints, controlling weight, increasing self esteem, reducing stress and promoting social well being.

Do you know that a healthy spine is the key to an active lifestyle?

You may be surprised to learn that taking good care of your back, or more importantly your spine, improves your overall well-being. Your spine is an incredible feat of nature. It’s incredibly strong yet flexible support made up of 24 bones and cartilage. Cartilage gives your spine that flexibility, and it makes up 15% of the length of your spine.

Your spine does two important things: It protects a long and delicate spinal cord, and supports your entire upper body. And it’s in use 24 hours a day, even when you’re asleep.

If your spine supports you, you’d better make sure your spine gets GREAT support! A healthy active lifestyle requires your spine working at its best. And the spine, in particular, greatly benefits from adequate restful sleep. A period of rest and repair is essential to maintain this activity.

Is my mattress important to my healthy spine?

What you sleep on makes a big difference in the quality of sleep you get every night. A mattress without enough support for your spine can lead to back strain and muscle fatigue and a poor night’s sleep. In the long term, this will lead to detrimental back and (lifestyle!) problems.

A good mattress will maintain the same natural spine alignment you have when standing. When your body is allowed to rest in its natural position, muscles are relaxed and sleep is more refreshing.
